What would you say you do around here?

Performance review time.

At the beginning of this year we laid out a few major goals for Durdle Games. But like the famous saying goes “Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth”. So before convention season kicks off we though it would be a good time to review our progress and talk a little about our plans for the second half of the year. Below I’ll lay out some of our stated goals from January 2023 and give us an arbitrary score for our performance against those goals. I’m my own boss so I can rate things however I want.

  • Make some new games
Well we certainly did this one. Since the new year we have taken our deduction game Afoot from an idea to a fully fledged pitch-able prototype. Likewise our family friendly Roll/Draft/Write game Rolling Acres has been brought to life. We also have a third game we are working on, that we hope to share this fall. Score: 7 Chicken nuggets in your 6 piece order.
  • Publish a game
This one is pretty easy to evaluate. Do you see a Durdle Game sitting on your shelf right now? No? Well neither do we, so that must mean we haven’t published one. This is still on the agenda but more of a Q4 thing.
Score: 1 sock with a wet spot but you can’t figure out what you stepped in.
  • Revisit some old games
Earlier this year we pulled the mechanical guts out of Aimbots and attempted to build a much smaller game with said guts. We ended up a with a small game that was just OK. However we learned a lot through the process and when we get the time we plan to implement those into Aimbots 2.0. While the goal of this objective was just exploratory, we have put the effort in.
Score: 1 Participation ribbon that will be lost after the pizza party.
  • Enjoy Success
Back in January we couldn’t openly talk about Unmatched Adventures: Tales to Amaze and while that was rough it has been worth the wait. UMA launched on KS this spring and did really well. We couldn’t be happier with the reception to the game. Seeing some of these lesser known characters get so much instant love from the community has been genuinely heart warming.
Next week we will be in Columbus Ohio for Origins and will see a production prototype for the first time. Even better though will be meeting the Unmatched fans and play-testers who put their own time (and wallet though KS) behind the product. It will be a great time because the best way to enjoy success is always with friends.
Score: 11 Amazing Events out of 10
